Hello, my name is Renee Baker and I am a post-operative transgender woman. My journey in life continues to be a wondrous blessing to me. It has challenges for sure, but the decision to transition was one of the best ones I have ever made. I began my transition in April of 2004 and had my gender surgery in August of 2006. My gender transition was only the beginning as so many aspects of my life have blossomed since then. I spent over 20 years in the engineering field and have moved onto service work. I am a massage therapist now and am a board director at a local GLBT youth organization. I am also the moderator for North Texas Gender Friends and enjoy building bridges in our community. I am starting Gender Power primarily to help transgender individuals with their transition if this is the path they decide to take. I am also able to help those in a path of gender exploration or those just needing to peek out of the closet in some way. In addition, I provide education to all those who wish to learn. I grew up primarily on the plains of South Dakota. The grasslands speak to me and I have to get out of the city now and then to revisit them. I graduated with my engineering degree from South Dakota State University in 1987. I moved to Texas then with my ex-wife and son and worked for Texas Instruments for several years. I completed my Master’s degree in engineering at the University of Texas in Dallas in 1990. I then worked in telecommunications at a PBX company called Intecom for several years until I went back for my Ph.D. in engineering at UTD. I taught on the faculty at UTD for a few years and then worked in industry for L-3 Communications for another seven years. I resigned just prior to my facial surgery and gender surgery. Since then, I have been on the board at Youth First Texas and writing an autobiography and poetry. This last year I graduated from Universal Body Wellness with my massage therapy degree and opened up my practice in the Park Forest Office Building in Dallas. I am studying many advanced massage therapy techniques and enjoy helping others overcome their pain so they can get back into their joy. I love writing, dancing, dining, friends, family, nature hikes and playing with my pets. Life is never boring, but ever fascinating to me. It is great to be alive!
